How to Change Your Local Admin Password-Windows 10

Before you begin: Please note that you must be on Campus and your computer must be connected to the Internet with an Ethernet cable in order for this password change to work.

1. Sign out of the computer.

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click on your profile picture.
  3. Click Sign out.

2. Click Other User.

3. Type in your Local Admin User Name (lastname.#la) and Password.

4. Wait for the computer to complete the log in process.

5. At the desktop screen, Press Control, Alt, and Delete keys (CTRL+ALT+DEL)

6. Click Change a Password.

7. In the old password box: Type in your existing Local Admin Password.

8. In the new password box: Type in your new Local Admin Password.

9. In the confirm password box: Re-type your new Local Admin password.

10. Click the arrow → to submit the password change.

11. Sign out of the computer.

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click your profile picture.
  3. Click Sign out.

12. Click Other User.

13. Type in your OSU User Name (lastname.#) and Password.

 

You will need to use your OSU User name and password to log into the computer on a daily basis and only use the Local Admin User Name and Password when Administrator changes are required such as adding and removing applications. Whenever Administrator changes are required, a box will appear requesting your Admin User Name and Password.

To prevent data loss, never log into your Local Admin account and use that as your main account to store documents and data. Always log into and use your OSU (lastname.#) account and use your Local Admin User Name and Password whenever you get an Admin prompt.

When changing your password, your password must meet the following requirements: It must contain at least 8 or more characters, must have at least 1 upper case letter, at least 1 lower case letter, and at least 1 number. Special characters are optional.

Your Local Admin Password expires every 90 days.
